What do I need to start a group? You will be invited into an initial coaching call with CPJ’s strategic consultant, and identify potential group participants. You will also want to identify a regular meeting time and location. A detailed checklist is included in the leader guide, which features tips for preparing for each session and offers a template agenda. You will have access to CPJ’s strategic consultant via phone and email for any questions that arise throughout the curriculum.
How much does this curriculum cost? This curriculum is available at no cost. If your church or ministry is interested in adapting this curriculum to fit your organizational needs, please email politicaldiscipleship@cpjustice.org. We are constantly looking to improve this curriculum and experience for participants, and so ask both leaders and participants to complete feedback surveys throughout the course of the curriculum.
As a group leader, what kind of support can I expect to receive? Throughout the curriculum, leaders may contact a member of CPJ’s team at politicaldiscipleship@cpjustice.org to talk through the group’s progress, and address any hurdles related to recruitment, group dynamics and more. Group leaders can also access the participant portal, which contains a leader guide, with complementary content to the participant guide, offering helpful tips for moderating group conversation and decision-making.
Is this curriculum based on a certain partisan framework? No, this curriculum is not rooted in any particular political framework. This curriculum is intended to be used by a group of Christians anywhere on the political spectrum. As a resource from the Center for Public Justice, it is based in a public justice framework, which is a Christian political framework and understanding of God’s good purpose for government. Who can participate in Political Discipleship? Political Discipleship is for the Christian who feels called to faithful citizenship. The settings in which this curriculum may be especially relevant include members of a church, or Christians from across several churches in a convenient geographical area. It may also be a good resource for colleagues in a faith-based workplace or parachurch ministry. The curriculum is also well-suited for both high school and college students. Group members need not have the same views – in fact, groups are encouraged to include members with a variety of political perspectives. Part of the group’s practice is to learn from one another, and see the value in diversified experiences, which enriches the overall experience of the group.
Does my group need to meet every week? Not necessarily. Some groups meet weekly while others meet regularly on a different frequency (bi-weekly, monthly).
